Matter density has fallen thirty orders of magnitude since recombination while Λ sat fixed, their ratio sweeping sixty orders across cosmic history, yet today they read nearly equal: 0.69 against 0.31. ΛCDM has no mechanism connecting them, so the crossing lands on "right now" by pure accident, and the model's only answers are anthropic resignation or tracker fields tuned to follow matter by construction.
The coincidence is manufactured by the model's architecture: one eternally fixed constant, one kinematically diluting fluid, zero coupling between them. Two quantities with unrelated origins and unrelated dynamics have no business being equal at any epoch, so their observed equality today can only be luck the model is forbidden to explain.
SCT deletes the accident at its source: the dark energy term is not independent of matter but built from it. Λ_eff(x,t) = C × Λ_parent(x,t) / λ_local(x,t) is a ratio of gravitational binding energies (P17), the parent-frame mesh against local structure, and both sides of that ratio are made of the same matter whose density the coincidence compares. As structure forms and the mesh dissipates (P14, P16, P18), the effective dark energy term grows on the same clock that dilutes the matter, because they are two readings of one evolving gravitational hierarchy. The crossing happens in the structure-formation era necessarily, not luckily: dark energy "switches on" as virialization proceeds, which is the epoch we inhabit because it is the epoch structure inhabits.
The why-now question then answers itself in one line: now is when the hierarchy matured. No anthropic selection, no tracker potential, no coupling added by hand, the coupling was never absent, only hidden by modeling Λ as a constant. The DESI evolving-w preference is this same construction surfacing in data: a term tied to structure cannot sit at exactly w = -1, and SCT derives where it sits instead (w₀ = -0.94, w_a = -0.58).
One keystone premise dissolves the coincidence, and it is the same premise that resolves the Hubble tension, the cosmological constant problem, and the DESI dynamics: four foundational puzzles, one ratio. A constructed relation must show its dynamics: the registered kills require w(z) to evolve (DESI Year 5 or Euclid finding w = -1.000 +/- 0.005 constant across all redshifts and environments falsifies the structure-tracking term) and Λ_eff to vary with environment at the few-percent level on 100-to-300 Mpc scales. A dark energy that is perfectly constant and perfectly uniform is an accident again, and SCT's account of the coincidence dies with the dynamics.
